This site, a work in progress, is a tribute to my beloved and terribly missed mother, Ann Viola Harrison, widow of George Desmond Harrison. She has two sons, my brother Glenn and me, Alan. I'm a crusty old bachelor, but Glenn is the husband of Lesley. Ann is the much loved gran of their children Tom, Sam and Alexandra. Her two great-granddaughters are Sam and Martha's little girl Felicity and Alex and Steven's daughter Caitlin.
Ann and George devoted many years to raising funds for Cancer Research UK, running dances to raise funds. They raised more than £25,000 and were invited to a garden party by the Queen for their work. Her ability to dance was rather diminished by a stroke when she was only fifty, but the fundraising continued. In later years, her health was poor, with a severe heart attack, heart failure, diabetes and other problems. After the loss of her beloved George in 2009, she carried on, with excellent support from her splendid care workers. These ladies are heroines and should be rewarded as such.
She left us, with Glenn and me both present and Alex holding her hand, on the evening of 30 September 2020.
Her funeral will take place on 28 October at Christ Church, Blakenall Heath, where she was married on 14 September 1946.
